South West Province has extended its services to the people behind bars by engaging itself in Prison Ministry.  Fr. Jose Karekat MSFS is full time involved in this ministry in the state of Kerala in his capacity as the State Director of Jesus’ Fraternity, the prison ministry wing of the Catholic Church in India.  He has qualified himself in the same field by doing his Doctoral studies on the life, attitudes and criminal behaviour of Prisoners and their situation in the prisons.  Besides this, we are also entrusted with the chaplaincy of Kannur Central Prison in Kerala.  Our confreres in Kannur community regularly attend to the spiritual and pastoral needs of the prisoners in Kannur Central Prison and their service is highly appreciated by the inmates as well as the prison authorities.
