Though we have two well
established provinces in Europe the South West Province also is engaged in
rendering pastoral service in certain countries in Europe. As a
congregatio n we had a strong
German MSFS community in the pre-second world war times but today we
witness a situation where our priests from India have gone to Germany to
make the presence of MSFS known. In this effort South West province has
played a vital role by establishing an MSFS Foundation in Oy-Mittelberg in
the diocese of Augsburg in 1994 through the instrumentality of Fr. James
Mukalel, the Local Superior of the Province in Germany. The Foundation
house is named House of St. Francis de Sales. At first, we were in the
diocese of Augsburg, and now we work besides Augsburg, in Muenster and
Eichstaett. Three Fathers, James Mukalel, Joseph Pazhayattil and Thomas
Moongamackal work in the diocese of Augsburg as parish priests, another
confrere, Fr. Joy Vazhappillil works in the diocese of Muenster and three
other confreres, George Chirayil, Siby Manickathan and Tomy Mullasseril
work in the diocese of Eichstaett as asst. parish priests. Two mo re
priests, Thomas Mekat and Binod Puthenpurackal are designated for ministry
in Eichstaett diocese. We have also the presence to South West Province
confreres in Austria and England. Two of them, Bobby Puthenparambil and
Sibichen Kochuveedu are working in Austria in the diocese of Vienna. And
two others, George Valliamthadathil and Benny Valiaveettil are working in
England, in the dioceses of Clifton and Northampton respectively.
Besides these confreres
working in Europe the province has also made available the services of a
few other confreres for the Generalate and other Provinces in Europe. All
of our confreres try to project our charism as MSFS and spirituality of
St. Francis de Sales. Most of our fathers are engaged in pastoral ministry
and have three to four parishes to take care. Hence the main apostolate
is parish missions and it was the original mission of our founder. Some of
our fathers go to school to teach religion (catechism), which is a must
for the priests there. They
prepare the children for first communion and confirmation. They have also
many apostolate groups, like association of women. Mother - child groups,
youth groups, altar boys and girls groups, Bible groups, prayer groups,
meditation groups, liturgical groups, boys and girls groups who are under
14 years of old, senior groups and so on. All of our fathers are well
accepted and appreciated for their works, friendly approach and
availability, preaching and celebrating the holy Eucharist. Although they
work in different dioceses they live as one MSFS family, with a local
superior and procurator. They come together at least twice a year to have
a communitarian sharing as MSFS and once a year for common retreat.
