MYSORE APOSTOLIC COMMUNITY

MYSORE

PROVINCIAL HOUSE

MSFS Provincial House is the administrative headquarters of the South West Province.  Apart from the administrative works the Provincial House community is also looking after the spiritual welfare of a small but vibrant Catholic Community in Kuvempunagar, Mysore.  Most of them have enrolled themselves as members of our lay association, Friends of St. Francis de Sales.  The Mysore Unit of ‘Jesus Youth’, the International Catholic Charismatic Youth Movement, is being animated by the Provincial House community.  For the past many years the community had been at the service of the student community of the area, the African students in particular.

SANNIDHI - MSFS NOVITIATE

Sannidhi, the MSFS novitiate belonging to South West Province is situated at K. Hemmanahalli, Mysore.  The novitiate which lasts for a full canonical year is concerned with the theoretical knowledge and practical living of religious life.

SAUMYA SADAN

Saumya Sadan is our third community in Mysore.  It has a few acres of agricultural land attached to it.  Some seasonal crops are cultivated in it.

MSFS MISSION, CHENNARAYAPATANA

The MSFS mission in Channarayapatna was started in 1996. Besides looking after the farm, services are rendered to the nearby parishes on Sundays and other important occasions.

VINAYAKUMAR ASHRAM, CHOKKAD

Vinayakumar Ashram in Chokkad is an agricultural land with various cash crops.  The priests who belong to this community, besides their regular works, render service to the nearby parishes.

ST. GEORGE’S PARISH, T.K. COLONY

Bishop Joseph Porunnedom of Mananthavady, has entrusted to the MSFS in 2005 the newly erected parish of T.K. Colony for a period of Fifteen years. The diocese would be open to renew the same after the period of contract is over.  The Syro Malabar Catholics of the present parishes of Chokkad, Thelpara and Pookottumpadam in the vicinity of Vinayakumar Estate were taken care of by our fathers in Vinayakumar Estate.  The Sunday Mass was celebrated in our house and the pastoral needs were met by us. Later on the congregation built up the parish church of Chokkad. Gradually Thelpara was developed as an independent parish and the congregation with the efforts of the people built up the parish church and presbytery. Pookottumpadam remained a sub-station of Chokkad and was later erected as an independent parish. We were in charge of these missions till 1992-1993.

T. K. Colony was developed as a sub-station of Thelpara parish. It is about 5 kms from the parish as well as from Vinayakumar Ashram, our community. There are about 50 catholic families here. Besides, this is a colony of poor and migrant people consisting of Hindus, Muslims and Christians. Fr. Kurian Aranjanil MSFS had started a dispensary under the name Daniela Dispensary. This centre is now used as a social work centre. There is a small church built up by Fr. Devasia Kalapura MSFS while he was the parish priest of Thelpara. We have 40 cents of land adjacent to the property of the parish.  Besides the pastoral care, this village located on the hills is a good area to extend our ministries to all disregarding caste and creed. All of them are poor, hard working, depending on the daily wages.

JYOTL NILAYA (SOCIAL ACTION & REHABILITATION CENTRE (SARC), CALICUT

Jyothi Nilaya is the brain-child of Fr. Thomas Chennakattukunnel.  The very purpose of this centre is to give an uplifting hand to the street children.  This centre is located in Calicut city, near Kannur Road.  Outreach programmes, street education, counseling etc. for street children were initiated intensively.  The future programmes that are envisaged are night sheltering, medical aids, educational programmes, vocational training, recreational activities etc.  Lately some effort is made to rehabilitate the children of prisoners and it is found to be very welcoming and effective.

MSFS HOUSE, SULTHAN BATHERY

We have started a new foundation of the Congregation at Sulthan Batherry in the diocese of Manathavady on 11 August 2003. Monsignor George Njaralakattu, Administrator of the diocese of Manathavady blessed the existing house and welcomed us cordially to the diocese.
